Ok so I am a total foodie and a nutcase photographer when I am not eating I m cooking , when i m not cooking I'am clicking, everything else i do is sandwiched between these activities. The pic shown above is 'Sunday Samayal' I made for my Amma :) she loves it when I surprise her ! (who doesn't!)
As we sat down and started enjoying our sunday lunch , we remebered our recent holiday at Andamans, the crystal blue sky , clear water, crisp sea breeze and who could forget the sea food!!
One of my favorite dishes I had during the entire trip was at Havelock Islands located @ Ritchie's Archipelago about 50 km north of Port Blair. (shown above)
We traveled for 3 -4 hrs in a fancy cruise and landed in a rather primitive yet pristine island, with very limited facilities.
This did not (as always) stop me from having the culinary adventure. We visited one of those tiny shack hotels and asked them whats for lunch . They of course had a fixed meals menu for all .. comprising of a vegetable, rice/roti and dhal.Hmm this is not very different from what I pack for lunch everyday.
So i asked the person in charge Uncle tell me what u have in ur menu that I will enjoy so much that I would travel a 100s of miles again to come and have it. It was then that he got out his treasure trove of Pomfret he had hidden away in the kitchen.
He was generous enough to invite me into the tiny kitchen (it was cleaner than I had ever imagined a hotel to be!!) and allowed me to pick from the fresh catch :) and whether i want it fried or curried!
So I took my pick , one medium sized pomfret fried (to perfection) and a medium size Pomfret with gravy .. My mouth is watering just thinking about it , should I even explain how it tasted ? I will leave that to your imagination :)
I gave my taste buds an experience to remember a life time and yes I m waiting to go back to that tiny shack at Havelock, Andamans :)
